Bellwether Wines
Coonawarra, South Australia
Winemakers: Sue Bell
Sue Bell created Bellwether, based at the 1868 Glen Roy Shearing Shed in Coonawarra. She focuses on special parcels of fruit with no ferment larger than 1T primarily for herself and some contract work for local growers wanting to start their own brands. Sue believes wine alone is irresponsible and a bit strange, so has established a place to share life with wine in it.
Sue has a degree in Oenology from Adelaide Uni and some postgraduate studies in Viticulture. She has worked for some of the smallest and biggest wine companies in the world, with experience in most South Australian regions, Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and vintages in California and Bordeaux. Sue has served on numerous industry boards at a regional, state and national level, was dux of the prestigious Len Evans Tutorial and regularly judges at wine shows, including chairing regional and National shows.
Sue's wines have won numerous medals and trophies and was Australian Society of Viticulture & Oenology Winemaker of the year in 2014. Sue is a graduate of the Australian Rural Leadership Program, has a 10 year old daughter and once won the blue ribbon for veggies at the Penola Show. She can be found at Bellwether making wine, sour dough, gardening, cooking lamb or planning the next music gig or event.
